OUR LATEST INITIATIVE…
We recently added a project aimed at incorporating youth into our mission. Our new subsidiary is called Sedona Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) Club. It is an extra-curricular club serving the youth of Sedona, Arizona. Sedona MMUN Club is a year-long program that provides a simulation of the United Nations General Assembly for middle school kids, grades 7 and 8.
The program incorporates Montessori principles of inclusion, collaboration, and self-directed learning. Students learn how to become global citizens, aware of world issues, and capable of contributing positive change. They develop skills in research, critical thinking, problem solving, writing and public speaking.
The culmination of the year-long program is a multi-day, global event, where participants from all over the world, visit either New York City, Rome or Bangkok. They come together to share their findings and collaborate. They learn to work together and find common ground in order to reach a consensus on real world problems. Including our mission of environmental conservation and restoration.
We are currently working diligently to raise the funds for the club to travel to our next conference location of Bangkok, Thailand! We currently have 8 delegates (youth participants) enrolled in the program with an estimated trip expense of approximately $40,000.
These kids are determined to help with the expense. They currently run a lemonade stand after school and on weekends to help offset the cost.
A donation of any amount would be extremely helpful for the kids to get the needed supplies to operate their lemonade stand or apply directly to the conference expense itself.
